One thing to know before anything else: Our cars carry German dealer tags. That means anyone with a valid US driver’s license can test drive — no USAREUR license needed. Same as renting a car. Come in on Day 1.

Come In & Test Drive
Walk the lot. Test drive with your US driver’s license — our German dealer tags cover you exactly like a rental car. No USAREUR license needed. No pressure, no games. We’ll give you a payment estimate on the spot.
Reserve the Car — $300 Deposit
Found the right vehicle? Reserve it at autobahn66.net with a $300 deposit. This is not an extra cost — it goes directly toward your purchase price. If your financing doesn’t go through, it’s fully refunded.
Please only reserve if you’re serious. A reservation blocks other customers from buying that vehicle. Reserving just to hold a car and not following through is unfair to fellow soldiers in the same situation.
Apply for Financing with Navy Federal Credit Union
Call Navy Federal Credit Union directly. All military branches and DoD civilians are eligible. Pre-approvals are often done in 30 minutes by phone. We help you prepare exactly what they need — LES, Military ID, PCS Orders, and our bill of sale formatted to their exact requirements.
Pro tip: Call Navy Federal before you leave the States. You can have pre-approval in hand before you even land in Germany.
Get USAREUR Insurance in Place
You need USAREUR-approved insurance before you can register. We recommend Mirascon or USAA European Offices. Critical: Insurance must be visible in the German registration system 1–2 days before your VRO appointment — not the same day. Digital blank cards only — hard copies are rejected at the VRO.
Wire Us the Money
Payment is processed securely through our US entity, Autobahn66 USA LLC. We walk you through every detail of the wire transfer — straightforward, done thousands of times. No surprises.
Get the Alpha Form — US Customs on Clay
AE Form 550-175A — your tax-free authorization. Walk-in, no appointment needed. Clay Kaserne, Building 1025, Room 102. Mon–Fri 0800–1600.
Bring: Military ID, SSN/DoD ID, organization & APO, DEROS date, PCS orders, and the vehicle invoice we prepare for you in the exact format Customs requires. On a $25,000 car, this form saves you $4,750.
Bring Your Alpha Form to Us — We Handle German Customs
Once you have your Alpha Form, come straight to our dealership. We take it from here — we process the complete German customs procedure on your behalf. Your car will have passed its safety inspection and be ready. This is where it all comes together.
Head to VRO on Clay — Pick Up Your Permanent 2-Year Tags
With your full packet in hand, head to the Vehicle Registration Office at Building 1182, Clay Kaserne. Turn in everything, pay the $35 fee (check, money order, or credit card — no cash), and walk out with your permanent 2-year USAREUR tags in hand.
Then come back to us to pick up your car. Need a ride? We’ve got you — we can arrange pickup and drop-off on delivery day so you don’t have to figure out transportation on top of everything else.

As a US service member or DoD civilian under SOFA, you are not required to register in the German civilian system. You use USAREUR registration — tags recognized across Germany and the EU.
When you buy from Autobahn66, we run the safety inspection before pickup and you receive permanent tags immediately — no temp tag period whatsoever.
What to bring:
You need a USAREUR Driver’s License before you can register a USAREUR-tagged vehicle. Must carry your US stateside license alongside it at all times. Valid 5 years.
While you work on this — you can still test drive our cars today with your US license. Our German dealer tags, no USAREUR license required.

Germany charges 19% VAT on vehicle purchases. SOFA status means you pay none of it — but you need the AE Form 550-175A, known as the “Alpha Form.” Issued by US Army Customs on Clay Kaserne. Walk-in, no appointment. On a $25,000 car, that’s $4,750 back in your pocket.
What to bring:
Before the VRO issues tags, you must have USAREUR-approved insurance visible in the German registration system.
